Christopher Nolan Helped Out On ‘Batman v Superman’

Although Christopher Nolan’s name doesn’t appear in the credits for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,  the esteemed director still had a helping hand in making the film.

In a piece from LA Times regarding IMAX technology, it was revealed that Nolan let Zack Snyder borrow one of his personal lenses for BvS.  These parts are hard to come by, so the Dark Knight Trilogy director lent his to the man behind the new incarnation of Batman on film.  I guess we can consider this passing of the torch of Batman directors.  Nolan also lent this technology to J.J. Abrams and LucasFilm for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  Christopher Nolan, the gift in film that keeps on giving.

However, that is just about all the help from Nolan as WB and Zack Snyder got for the second installment of the DC Extended Universe.  As fans may know, after completing his work on The Dark Knight Rises, Nolan and his production company Syncopy helped with the production of Man of Steel.  Nolan even had a helping hand with the story, which could explain why MoS has such a Batman Begins vibe to it.

Syncopy and Nolan were noticeably absent for the production of Batman v Superman, as well as Suicide Squad.  Perhaps Nolan didn’t like the direction WB was taking the DC films and didn’t want a part of it, perhaps he and his production team were too busy working on his new film Dunkirk.  Despite Nolan’s separation from the superhero genre in the last few years, it’s great to see he’s willing to help out other directors in the name of film.

Although fans will probably never see Nolan behind the camera for another superhero film, WB is pressing on and seems to be heading in the right direction.  Going back to their roots as a director friendly studio that helped Nolan’s vision of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Knight Rises come to fruition, we have passion projects from Joss Whedon (Batgirl), David Ayer (Gotham City Sirens), Matt Reeves (Batman), and Chris McKay (Nightwing) on the way.  Not to mention this year’s Wonder Woman and Justice League and next year’s Aquaman from James Wan.

Did you see Batman v Superman in IMAX?  How do you feel about Nolan lending technology but staying away from the production of the film?  Let us know!
