While on a press tour to promote Fantastic Beasts, Flash actor Ezra Miller opens up with IGN about how the Flash and Batman will interact in Justice League.
We already knew that when the Justice League finally gathers, Batman’s hard-edge personality will clash with the Flash and Cyborg who are new to the superhero game. But when these big name superheroes butt heads, how does they affect each other? Ezra Miller on how Batman and the Flash:
“The [Batman and Flash]relationship [is] between someone who is naive and excited and someone who is experienced and jaded…. [they are] seeing each other as reflections of one another and being amused and sometimes annoyed [sic] by one another. I think that Bruce and Barry get a kick out of each other, because they are seeing sort of themselves but reflected in a warped mirror, you know? Bruce- being the age that Batman is- [sic] everything that being a superhero means you could become. He is, like, pretty shut down and having seen all of this horror. He’s like a veteran of struggle against evil and Barry is just getting into it and [Batman] seems exciting and very fun, right? They have a lot to learn from each other like any great friendship. It’s a fascinating relationship.”
We have already seen hints of that dynamic between the two heroes in the Justice League Comic-Con trailer. In the scene where Bruce Wayne approached Barry Allen to join the Justice League, Barry was so excited that he did not even let Bruce finish his pitch, much to Bruce’s surprised amusement.
No doubt that scene was just a tease of how they will interact during the rest of the movie. It will definitely be a very different relationship compared to the uneasy truce that Batman has with Superman in Batman v Superman or the comfortable, coworker-like banter with Wonder Woman.
I will give Miller this, the Flash and Batman dynamic is “fascinating”. In fact, some of my most “fascinating” friendships begin with somebody attempting to throw a Batarang at my face.
Justice League hits theaters on November 17th, 2017.
