I’m pretty sure after the role was secure, he spent the rest of his day looking into the mirror and saying the famous line over and over again until he found the right voice. It’s still kind of surreal that he’ll be Batman even after the trailers came out. No one expected Ben Affleck to be Batman, especially now. Right after finishing his Oscar-winning film, Argo, Ben Affleck was feeling pretty good about himself. Then he got a call from the producers of Man of Steel and his 2012 got even better. Affleck was confused. “Are you sure?” was his reaction. Batman is traditionally played by someone at least ten years younger than the 40-year-old Affleck at the time. According to Affleck, his follow up reaction was “At the time I was 40-41, and had just finished Argo, and I felt like, ‘This seems like a strange way to get to Batman.'”. However, after this intial shock, he realized what director Zack Snyder was going for in terms of Batman. Bruce Wayne is to played as an aging playboy, and added, “He (the character) really keeps up the image of the playboy, actively… So you have more of a dichotomy which I thought was really fun, and a little sad, like the aging playboy.”
So there you have it, Batfleck’s been in the works since 2012, since before Argo had even been released. Interesting stuff.
