TDK VS. TDKR: Box Office Update

There’s no question about it.”  That’s the words of Warner Bros. executive Jeff Goldstein when he was questioned by E! News about the shooting affecting the box office here in the states.  Nevertheless, The Dark Knight Rises remains dominate at the number one spot, now getting into its fourth week against The Bourne Legacy.  Today Rises crossed the 350 million mark 17 days in, the third fastest film to reach that benchmark to date.  Here in the states Rises is tracking behind its predecessor as  TDK only took 12 days to reach the 350 mark and six places ahead with second biggest gross for a non-Tuesday opening in the number two spot.

But overseas it’s a different story,  378 million to date for Rises while TDK was at 210.  So what does all of this mean?  Well for starters, the film is still doing good business as it looks set to cross over into the 1 billion dollar club, its already nearing its 800 million mark its only a matter of time before it does.  Secondly, you have confirming reassurance from the studio that the shooting did effect the performance domestically, there were clear signs weather you heard it from family, friends, or the news, people were shook.  But it should not stop people from going to the movies.  If anything, this has shown us that we can (sorry incoming pun) rise about the darkness and keep going strong as clearly seen by box office performance.  “We both refuse to let fear consume us.”  A quote from one of the victims who went back to finish seeing Rises.  Although it didn’t do The Avengers numbers and isn’t performing as strongly as a lot of us hopped (incoming reused pun), the dark knight… rises.
