Wonder Woman, the standalone film featuring protagonist Diana Prince (a.k.a. Wonder Woman, portrayed by Gal Gadot), was originally going to be released on 23 June 2017, but the film’s release date has been moved up to 2 June 2017. Gadot’s Wonder Woman character made a stunning appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has currently passed the $700M worldwide box office accumulation, despite a recent and drastic 70% box office decline as of last weekend.
Distributor Warner Bros. has also set specific dates (5 October 2018 and 1 November 2019) for two currently unnamed DC feature films; these dates represent two particular films that will be released in addition to the following DC films: Suicide Squad (5 August 2016), Wonder Woman (2 June 2017), The Justice League Part One (17 November 2017), The Flash (16 March 2018), Aquaman (27 July 2018), Shazam (5 April 2019), Justice League Part Two (14 June 2019), and Cyborg (3 April 2020). The mystery remains, however: which DC films will fill the October 2018 and November 2019 slots?
The answer just might be both a standalone Batman film and Suicide Squad sequel. Ben Affleck has recently revealed that he is working on “something” (most likely a screenplay or story) with Geoff Johns, who is both a comic book/television writer and the DC Comics Chief Creative Officer. Additionally, Warner Bros. has been considering a Suicide Squad sequel for some time, but wishes to assess the performance of the first film which comes out this August. Finally, considering the aforementioned list of eight named and confirmed DC Universe films that are set to hit theaters within the next four years, one might wonder where Batman, the Dark Knight, is hiding. Perhaps we will see him hit the big screen again, in either October 2018 or November 2019.
