This past weekend the internet exploded when Hitfix alleged that Jason Momoa (Games of Thrones, Conan The Barbarian) was officially cast as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We gave the story some attention here at DKN, but decided it best to regard it as a rumor until we had something more concrete. You can’t blame us for being skeptical – Momoa has repeatedly denied involvement with the film and the internet has cried wolf so many times when it comes to BvS that this reporter has a hard time taking anything seriously.
While Warner Bros. has yet to issue an official press release, respected industry trades like The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are saying the casting of Momoa is legitimate. Technically Ray Fisher being cast as Cyborg has never been confirmed by WB, but they also haven’t denied it in the months that have followed. The aforementioned trades aren’t one to lie and it hasn’t been uncommon for films on the Marvel side of the fence to not give a press release when certain characters were cast. It’s only because reputable outlets corroborated this that I am willing to type the article you’re currently reading.
Momoa’s Aquaman is reportedly set to make a cameo in BvS before making a bigger splash in Justice League. I think Mr. Momoa is a great fit for the role and mainstream moviegoers will hopefully see the character as the bad ass that I do.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. It opens in theaters May 6, 2016.
