At this weekend’s DC All Access Panel, there are conflicting reports regarding the release date of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight.
This weekend at WonderCon, DC had their All Access Panel. The event was packed to capacity and generally a fair amount of reverie was had all-around. A few reports regarding the panel have started surfacing. One of which, from BleedingCool, claims that Rocksteady’s highly anticipated follow-up, Batman: Arkham Knight, will be delayed until 2015. Cue the moans of anguish from millions of Arkham fans the world over. Then, other reports started cropping up that either provided a perfunctory mention of Arkham Knight with old news or no mention at all.
BleedingCool remains the only source reporting Arkham Knight‘s delay. Over the years that I’ve used BleedingCool, they’ve generally been pretty reliable about news. Scoops and exclusives are an entirely different matter altogether. One could easily have said that it was a typo or something, but the fact that BleedingCool made it a point to clarify the 2015 release date means that they are relatively confident in what they heard. Then, there are places like ComicBookResources who reiterate a 2014 release date.
I’ve read a few reports so far on the event and most of them are confirming the 2014 release, if at all. For the most part, DC didn’t have much to talk about on that front. They came, they showed the announcement trailer, they mentioned the release date, and then they moved on. Just the mere mention of the delay has my head spinning and I feel like it’s worth reporting on. The fact that there’s any doubt cast upon the release date at all is worth speculating on…. because wouldn’t you want to know if there was even the slightest possibility that this game could be delayed? So, let’s speculate. Which is it?
I found about 2-3 reports online that re-confirm the 2014 release. On top of that, there was a report that surfaced online just a few days prior to the panel at WonderCon of a purported release date of October 14, 2014. Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Steam, Walmart, and Newegg all have the game listed for the same released date. Granted, I’m not sure when the release date was put up on those outlets, but I can’t see how they would announce a release date just a few days prior to an announcement to delay it.
There’s a possibility that these outlets simply have not been updated yet, but I think we’re safe for now.
Make sure you pre-order the game at any of those outlets.
