DC Comics announced the line-up of offerings for Batman Day this year.
The headliner of the mini-event is the previously- announced Batman of Two Worlds one-shot special. The special will have the mainstream DCU Batman share a story with Absolute Batman. The regular writers on both of these series- Scott Snyder and Matt Fraction- will co-write the one-shot. Artist Javi Fernández handles the DCU Batman story, while Nick Derington illustrates the Absolute Batman portion.
Both writers are excited to see this special. While it is not a traditional crossover- the two Batmen will never meet- it is a cool chance to compare and contrast the characters. Absolute Batman writer Snyder elaborated:
“Without giving too much away. Both stories are about theft, what theft means in one world versus the other, and what Batman’s form of justice looks like in each. That was the guiding principle that gave us the opportunity to tell two stories that celebrate each interpretation.”
Main Batman writer Fraction also added his part:
“At the heart of it, it’s really simple. One problem, two solutions. Each version of Batman has his own way of working and his own solution to that problem. The fun was putting them side by side so you can see the similarities, the differences, and the unique flavor and texture of each world.”
Batman Day Giveaways and Merchandise
Fans can get free giveaway Batman masks. The different masks are based off of different artistic iterations of Batman. So there is Jorge Jimenez’s current Batman, Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman, Jim Lee’s Hush Batman, and Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns Batman. The most wild thing is that all four masks are by illustrated by the insanely-talented Ryan Sook aping the other artists’ styles.
Additionally, there will be Batman hardcovers and collections with variant covers.

Note how the collections for Batman ’89 and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns both feature download codes for digital movies. So fans could get a comic and the movie the comic is based on for the same price. Now that is a great deal!
On the digital side, there are plenty of Batman content to check out. Fans can read the first three issues of Absolute Batman and all of Webtoons’ Batman: Wayne Family Adventures on the DCUI reading app for free. Plus, any DCUI subscribers can get free Bat-Cave props for their LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight video game.
