Harley Quinn #59 poses an event that has been set in motion since Harley Quinn set foot in Throatcutter Hill. Althea and Harley are finally going on their date. Yannick Paquette and Arif Prianto come together again to give a stunning wreck of a main cover. I mean that with all fondness as the cover features Harley and Althea as Harley is a traffic officer clearly not directing traffic as Althea is taking up her arms. The pile-up is hilarious behind them and honestly given the track record of anything going according to any kind of plan in a Harley Quinn comic…highly accurate.

Let’s dig in and see what awaits us after Captain Blimp in Harley Quinn #58.

Taking A Bite Outta’ Crime

Harley Quinn #59 starts with a different internal voice as Althea Klang is our narrator for this tale. Klang gives a flash of the future with a scene of Harley kicking Althea out of their date. However did this set of events happen? Althea is here to tell us, she goes back to before the date even began, while she was getting ready. Althea doesn’t even wait for the pick up from Harley, she meets her at Harley’s door.

The dinner begins well enough as Harley and Althea talk and Althea explains her time growing up in Throatcutter Hill. But their bonding time is interrupted as Colonel Blimp arrives to rob the restaurant patrons. What a fibber, saying he would mind his P’s and Q’s. However,  Althea is rather perturbed with Harley’s lack of action. But never fear, Chicken Fingers-Crime Fighter, is here! Colonel Blimp came ready for a fight, but as someone real wise once said. “Oh, sugar, you just gone and done the dumbest thing in your whole life.”

All My Scenes Play Out, In Black and White.

I found quite a few enjoyable moments while devouring Harley Quinn #59. Seeing depth added to Althea’s character was really nice when coupled with her journal. The reiteration of relationship standing and exactly what Harley is offering is a bit much but to be fair it is clear that for Althea, that message wasn’t reaching the heart and brain trust.   Also a battle most enjoyable is Althea versus Admissions.

The final scene, though adorable, doesn’t match up to the impact from the shots of Klang getting ready. The style of art here is so lovely and honestly? The eyeliner scene is a hands down favorite, beautifully done by this art team.

Conclusion

Harley Quinn #59 is really a nice reminder that Harley has never claimed to be a hero, not until it hits her heart. Even then, things will go about in her way, which is clearly not a hero’s way. It is an interesting line of thought watching her actions unfold. Next issue holds more answers. Until next time friends, be well!
