Harley Quinn #58 is the beginning to aftermath of all the chaos wrought by the Deconspirator during Harley Quinn #57. But the main cover by Yanick Paquette and Arif Prianto leaves us up in the air. A pink fantasy of Ace of the Skies Harley Quinn taking a safety pin to a manned blimp. I adore the story-telling elements here so much, it is a vision and a dream. A trip to Slumberland with the color choices, brava. Now, let’s dig in and see what awaits us in Harley Quinn #58.
Axeles To Axeles, Rust To Rust
As Harley Quinn #58 opens, the scene it falls on is that of the funeral of Sheldon Marcisak. The newly formed gang is all there, even Convoy is doing the eulogy. Chicken Fingers and The Gunbuddies join in the farewell too, and Harley notices someone else there…someone who would have preferred to go unnoticed. Dolores. While Harley decides what to do, GunBunny notices a certain somebody herself. Ritchie.
Though Harley wants to help, Chicken Fingers advises her away from Dolores. He points out there is plenty of help needed in Throatcutter Hill in the aftermath of The Deconspirator. Harley decides to ruminate on how Throatcutter Hill was put in danger to begin with and finds herself outside Althea’s with a bagpipe for assistance. But once again Althea needs rescuing by Harley as a Captain Blimp begins an attack against them both!
Prepare To Be Amygdalated!
Harley Quinn #58 serves up a lot of different potential pathways. Amygdala playing wingman is honestly the best part of this issue for me. Several times I found myself chuckling at his vocal support of his boss. Hearing that there is trouble in Gotham forcing lower level villains to eye new areas. Also a new name enters the fray but only in name sake from his henchman. Guy Mandrake. It will be interesting to see what part he will play, if he comes back up.
Conclusion
Harley Quinn #58 does give us many avenues to ponder on potential upcoming story-lines. One of which has been postponed for long enough. For Harley Quinn #59 readers will finally get the first date of Althea Klang and Harley Quinn, for something so utterly drawn out…hopefully it has decent food options. See you guys there!
