“Hush 2” writer Jeph Leon gives an update on the delays of the Batman story arc and why artist Jim Lee is so late.
At a panel at Emerald City Comic Con, Loeb was frank that the reason is due to Lee and his insanely busy schedule. Loeb also reminded the audience that Lee is not only the artist, but also DC’s Publisher, President, and Chief Creative Officer. So Lee has a lot of commitments that are not related to drawing. For example, Loeb mentioned that Lee needed to represent DC Comics while promoting the Superman movie this past summer.
“Why are we late? The reality is, I have a partner who is the best artist living on the planet, name of Jim Lee. He also happens to be the publisher of the best comic book company, and that takes a lot of time.”
Jim Lee’s Other Artistic Commitments
In addition to Lee’s other duties, Loeb also mentioned that Lee is also drawing, but just not “Hush 2”. Lee will also be contributing a short story to the Spider-Man/ Superman crossover comic special later this year. In the mean time, Loeb told Lee the he was pausing on drawing for “Hush 2”. Loeb tried to give a timeline of when the series will finish.
“You’ll finish up that story, and then in 2027, you’ll get all six issues together [of the second part of Hush 2], and that story will fit beautifully before Matt Fraction starts his book.”
Part of the update is in jest. Matt Fraction has been writing for Batman seven issues in already.
The next chapter of “Hush 2” will be in Batman #163, which is slated to come out in May 27, 2026… for now.
