Review by James Attias
Titans #28 is our first post DC K.O. tie in, and we have our first glimpse of what is happening to the world, while the fights take place…
Evacuate the Earth
The magnitude of DC K.O. will be felt throughout the entire DC universe, when reading the issue one of the characters suggests that the only way to survive it is for them to start a New 52 style reboot of everything. But when they finally agree that an all out battle royale is the only way to succeed, it seemed like the fighting was contained in some battle world style arena, so why then are the Titans evacuating the earth. We see a Godzilla size Darkseid smashing buildings and causing trouble at the beginning of DC K.O. so the only thing I can think of is, whilst the fights are taking place, the earth is very much on the line and in dire trouble. Even when the fights are over, the world itself will be forever changed. So that leaves the Titans, of whom only Cyborg is in the K.O. Tournament, this leaves the rest of the gang to save the planet, and be the last line of defense.
One Last Goodbye?
This issue very much felt like it was a slow build goodbye to this title. Every character somewhat mentioning this is the end of the world. Saying emotional, if not optimistic goodbyes to one another, it also helped to show a lot of the characters not involved in the K.O. fights. (Although I’m eager as a beaver to know why Jay Garrick is the only speedster in the tournament – Where’s Wally?! ‘cos he aint with the Titans). The art in this book was beautiful, the writing was genuine and splendid. I’m really worried that not all of these characters are going to make it out alive. Donna and Roy are romantically involved, and they’ve been killed more times than anyone. Only time will tell…
Conclusion
Titans #28 feels like the last time we’ll see all the Titans together, and it was a wonderful read, finger’s crossed for the next issue.
