Nightwing #129 is like getting a hug from someone you barely know. It feels nice, but there’s also something slightly uncomfortable about it.

Chicken Soup For The Soul

Nightwing has been trekking his way through this mind maze Titans tower for what feels like an eternity. Looking for Babs, looking for Haley, looking for Nite-Mite. Everything that happens along the way seems to just disappear from our minds the minute the book ends. This issue attempts to wrap everything up with some plot threads that will definitely come back to haunt us.
In your mind think of what would be the worst worst most hurtful damaging thing that could happen to Nightwing? Fighting Batman? Nope. Been there. Done that. Breaking up with Babs? Strike 2! Nope, seen those days come and go. He quits doing squats and loses his Night-Butt? Maybe… But no! It’s if anything ever happened to that beautiful little three legged dog of his! Last issue ended teasing a version of Haley who has been transformed into a huge monster. This issue picks up where that leaves off. I want to commend Dan Watters for freaking me the fluff out by that tease, but handling this so well. As well as the most mouth watering heart warming look at Alfred’s chicken soup, and its relationship to young Dick Grayson.

Spite-Wing

This story ends the arc but teas up the future. I don’t know what’s next, but I’ve been enjoying the dark and spooky take on Nighwing and Bludhaven. It never goes on too long as well, as soon as an arc feels like it’s dragging it’s wrapped up and moved on. I hope that the ongoing story that has been an undercurrent to all of these mini arcs pays off soon too. Only time will tell.

Conclusion

Nightwing #129 is a good read, with some heart warming moments and a glimpse of some stories to come. ‘Till Next time Night-Fans!
