Review by James Attias
Detective Comics #1098 brings us an unusual trio fighting the somewhat immortal forces of LXR. Can they withstand these fierce foes or will the good(ish) guys suffer a loss? Let’s jump in…
The Bat, The Bird and The Bullock
The last page shocker from last week’s issue was enough to have us clamoring for info, so this issue starts where we left off, with Penguin, Batman and all of us readers, desperate for information. Who are LXR, why have they kidnapped The Penguin as well as Harvey Bullock, and will Batman be able to save them both.
The dialogue and storytelling from Tom Taylor here are, as always, wonderful. Playful, serious and devastatingly intriguing. Every word, every grunt, every question leads us to enjoy this book more. Can’t praise the writing or the art enough.
Wah Wah
As well as this being a gritty issue, filled with torture, blood shed and violence, some of the panels that show Batman and Penguin, are some of my favorites of all time. Slight grin’s. Grimaces. Confusion, and frustration. Just so fun to read. Thank you to Lee Grabett for making it possible.
Conclusion
Detective Comics #1098 is a fantastic issue that furthers the plot and takes us deeper into the mystery. Can’t wait for more!
