Batman and Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #1 is upon us and I, for one, am happy for the return. Last time we were all together it was because Krampus was reigning chaos. This time promises that same wonderful feeling.  We may start our tale in the Valley of the Kings, but the cover starts us off with a few familiar faces, showcased in beautiful detail and color. Bernard Chang and Marcelo Maiolo do a magnificent job of giving a thrilling Christmas ride with Santa, Batman, Robin, and Zatanna.  Beautiful and definitely setting the tone for our tale, so let’s crack the cover and enjoy!

My Dad Told Me To Listen To Your Dad.

Batman and Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #1 starts out showing our heroes interceding on a being, looking like a knight, who leaves those he touches as mummies. Moving 10 hours forward we join Zatanna as she informs John that this is happening all over the world. Robin stops by for help, explaining the being the Justice League thought they had contained, not only burst free but they are overwhelmed. Robin asks Zatanna for help…and receives it in more ways than one as Klaus appears from the fireplace.

But while Krampus was able to be reached, this new menace, the Silent Knight, boasts some pretty impressive skill. The League are trapped, those marked by the Knight being used as little more than batteries to fuel his empire. A trap and plan well laid it seems, but Santa is already on the case, teaming up with Damian to help not only Gotham but the world. Will our heroes be able to save Christmas this year? Or is it a dreary, blue Christmas this year?

He Is Always Listening

It is always a pleasure getting to revisit tales and Batman and Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #1 is certainly a treat. Jeff Parker returns and promises another Christmas tale for the ages. We get to see Lukas Ketner, art,  and Marcelo Maiolo, colors, bring the story to life beautifully and the tone is a chorus of cheer.  From action to heart warming scenes, it is charming and interesting as we start this new adventure.

I love the scene of Robin in Zatanna’s apartment as he is asking her for help. The emotion conveyed is a true testament to this team, I especially like coloring here because those lights are impressive. It remains to be seen just what this “Silent Knight” wants but if Klaus has been keeping tabs on the situation, it must be something important.

Conclusion

Batman and Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #1 puts us directly in the action as we have peril and the fate of beloved heroes on the line.  I look forward to this Christmas Carol.  Until next time friends!
