Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday spoke about why Batman deserved the star
“Batman is one of our most recognizable and loved cultural icons, so it comes as no surprise to me that he’s been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But this achievement also speaks to the powerful and growing influence that comic books have on popular culture – and few superheroes have had as long a lasting impact on comics, graphic novels, TV shows and movies. Congratulations, Batman.”
Beyond the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Batman does hold a number of impressive Guinness World Records titles. According to Guinness’ website Batman also holds the following:
LEGO® Batman: The Video Game became the best-selling superhero video game, while Batman: Arkham is the best-selling superhero video game series. 1998 PlayStation game Batman & Robin also made history as the first free-roaming superhero video game and the first open-world superhero video game.
When it was released in 2008, The Dark Knight became the highest-grossing film release on IMAX as well as the highest-grossing midnight screening at the domestic box office. The character also holds the record for most Oscar winners to play one superhero (Clooney, Bale and Affleck).
Not too bad for an 85 year old character. You can catch the entire event on live-stream here.
If you happen to be in the neighborhood, the star is located at 6763 Hollywood Blvd. It is set next to Batman ’66 actor Adam West and Batman co-creator, Bob Kane.
