Review: Gotham City Sirens #1

“Gotham City Sirens” – Part One
Writer and Artist: Leah Williams
Artist: Matteo Lolli
Color Artist: Triona Farrell
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou

The iconic trio are back in Gotham City Sirens #1. The team of Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn have been enchanting and scaring readers for their entire time. Much has changed since then, with Catwoman running the streets with supernatural aid. Harley and Ivy being a committed couple. This issue brings us a new mystery, dangling clues, striking visuals, and a welcome sight for what we can expect in this four part series.

Where were we…

It might be daunting for some readers that we’re dropped right into the deep end with this issue. Personally, I deeply love it. There’s no time for us to be bogged down with what’s going on in current continuity, or what we can expect in the other tie-in titles. We get straight into the mysteries of men chasing strangers and unkillable beasts. Even with the dramatic reveal right at the end of the issue, we’re still teased with what it may or may not mean.

XOXO Gotham Girl

The issue oozes with scintillating color which puts the high motion at the beginning into focus. While keeping the “heroic” ladies of the issue well in frame during their explanations. The whole issue just draws you in and brings you to the space that these characters inhabit as everything feels as out there and high motion as you’d expect.

I have to give Otsmane-Elhaou a great deal of credit for the detail right at the end to make that text box look very much like, but legally distinct from a Twitch chat box.

Conclusion

Gotham City Sirens #1 has set the stage for a raucous adventure with some of my personal favorite characters in all of DC. Truly anything could happen, and I’m eager to read on!
