Director Todd Phillips has taken to Instagram to share new photos from Joker: Folie à Deux. They feature the stars, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
Shared for the Holidays, the caption reads:
Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a beautiful new year
One of the new photos shows Arthur (The Joker) Fleck through a solid door in what looks to be a cell. He found himself in Arkham at the end of the first film, and with Dr. Harleen Quinzel being introduced, we know that part of the sequel will be set in the Asylum. It will be interesting to see Phillips’ version of the prison hospital.
In the second picture, Harley’s standing with Fleck, watching him and, looking at her expression, falling in love. Wearing his iconic makeup and suit, surrounded by people, it’s hard to tell what might be happening, but it doesn’t look like Harley Quinn’s been created just yet.
There isn’t much known about the plot yet, but we do know that it will be a musical set in 1983, two years after the events in the first movie. Folie à Deux is a french saying, meaning ‘delusion’, or ‘a mental illness shared by two people’. It will be interesting to see a new perspective on Harley’s origin story. Joker 2 will also see the return of Zazie Beetz, as Sophie Dumond, and new additions to the lineup; Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland.
Set outside of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, Joker will not be joined by any of the already existing characters of the big screen.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set to be released on October 4th, 2024.
