Batman’s Origin Story Retold In DC’s Dark Age Series

Batman’s origin story is one of the most well-known and iconic in history, but DC’s Dark Age will be retelling it as part of real historical events.

Written by Mark Russell, with art by Mike Allred, Batman: Dark Age is a six-issue miniseries set to be released in early 2024.

“Meet Bruce Wayne, Gotham’s favorite delinquent son. In an origin story like no other, witness the boy become a dark knight shaped by a city in turmoil as it marches towards its prophesied doom.”

This series will be a spiritual successor to Russell and Allred’s DC book, Superman: Space Age, which retold Superman’s primordial days against the backdrop of the Cold War and the Space Race.

“Set against the backdrop of actual historical events, [in Batman: Dark Age] Gotham comes alive, filled with the iconic characters who’ve loved and hated Batman over the years like you’ve never seen them before. Spinning out of the Eisner-nominated Superman: Space Age, Mark Russell, and Mike Allred return to give audiences a look at Batman as a figure in American history fighting for justice in a world gone mad.”

Laura Allred and David Sharpe will be joining the duo as the series’ color artist and letterer, and each issue of Batman: Dark Age will be forty pages long, double the length of a standard comic book.

Set to go on sale on March 26th, 2024, with variant covers by Allred, Yanick Paquette, and Frank Quitely. Everyone at Dark Knight News is looking forward to seeing how they change up Batsy’s iconic origin story.
