DC Comics has revealed the third trailer for Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham.

If any readers haven’t had a chance to check out the first issue of Gargoyle Of Gotham, it really is something else. The premise of the series is that Batman is done being Bruce Wayne and wants to be the Dark Knight full-time. However, there’s a serial killer on the loose and, what’s worse, there are some dark secrets surrounding our hero.

DC is touting Gargoyle as an uncompromising look at Batman, and they’re not wrong. Something about writer and artist Rafael Grampa’s style gives the series an unsettling vibe, and the new trailer seeks to capture that overtly-gritty tone:

‘Gargoyle of Gotham’ Offers a New Take on the Dark Knight

The clip gives us an interesting mix of CG effects inter-spliced with Grampa’s art. The music evokes a sense of dread, as if something’s going to leap out from the shadows. It’s much more evocative than the other two trailers that DC released to promote the series. For one thing, the other two mainly feature a CG Batman and Batmobile.

In case you missed them, here they are:

Not to knock the CG work, but it robs the story of its disturbing, kinetic energy if it doesn’t showcase Grampa’s distinctive style. This latest trailer really amps up the emotions and the wild-feeling of the comic. It was also a stroke of genius to show the artist behind the project too. This lets readers know that this is Grampa’s creative vision of Batman, which is whole the point of the Black Label imprint.

Honestly, this is probably the best looking, most integrated comic book trailer I’ve ever seen. It really does make you want to pick up the next issue of the series.

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #2 will hit comic book shelves sometime in December.
