Suicide Squad Isekai Anime TV Series Coming

DC has announced that we will be getting a brand new Suicide Squad Isekai anime series, at Anime Expo! Warner Bros. Japan has teamed up with WIT Studio, which is responsible for other amazing anime like SPYxFAMILY CODE: White, After The Rain, and Bubble, to bring us Suicide Squad Isekai.

Isekai is a popular subgenre that throws the protagonist, usually with the help of Truck-kun, into a world completely different from their own. A couple of well-known Isekai are Digimon, Mushoku Tensei, The Devil is a Part-Timer, and Sword Art Online, and there are many more out there. New fans will also quickly find out that That Time I was Reincarnated as a Slime, really isn’t a long title compared to some others.

In the trailer, we see Harley and Joker terrorizing Gotham City, as usual, and then cutting to a magical world of dragons and orcs. No doubt also terrorizing that world, too. These new versions of the Clown Prince and his Jester look amazing! Chief animation director, Eri Osada, the mastermind behind Jujitsu Kaisen, said:

Everybody has their favorite version of Joker. We ultimately decided to not copy any particular iteration and have something completely unique.”

Not many details are known about Suicide Squad Isekai just yet, as the announcement was very sudden and surprising, but we do know that it isn’t connected to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe reboot.

Although WIT Studio CEO George Wada did tell the audience to call Gunn and tell him to watch the show. Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara will be writing the scripts, working together again as they did for another Isekai, Re: Zero – Starting Life in Another World.

I will leave you with just one more detail though. Osada told the audience that they got

The express permission from DC to have the characters use magic”.

Do with that what you will.
