Karen Gillan Wants To Play Poison Ivy

Actress Karen Gillan has stated that she wants to play Poison Ivy in the new DCU, and honestly, Dark Knight News would love to see that happen. In the new issue of Total Film magazine with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on the cover, Gillan talks about her time as Nebula and her desire to play Ivy.

Rising to fame playing Amy Pond in Doctor Who, Karen went on to portray the fan-favorite villain-to-anti-hero Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Daughter of Thanos and sister to Gamora (played by Zoe Saldaña), stepping in as one of Batmans Rogue Gallery wouldn’t be too a major change for Gillan.

She describes her role, playing Nebula as:

I was under the impression I was signing up for eight days of filming on the first film and then it just gradually kept getting extended. Here we are, nine or 10 years later.

With the final Guardians movie only just released in cinemas, we don’t know what is in store for Nebula and the family she found, particularly with Director James Gunns’ priority shifting from Marvel Studios to DC Studios as he and Peter Safran build a new DCU together.

Gillan says:

I just genuinely love this character so much, and I feel like there’s just an endless amount of things that could be done with her. So, yeah, I would obviously love to explore more, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. I’m waiting to see just as much as everyone else [laughs].

All the new changes that Gunn and Safran are affecting over DC also include bringing new and old characters to the big screen. One we all would love to see, and have made sure that he knows so, is Poison Ivy. We haven’t seen Ivy be brought to life on the big screen since the iconic version Uma Thurman gave us in 1997’s Batman & Robin.

Gillan says:

I always thought that Poison Ivy was really fun. So maybe something like that would be cool. Honestly, if James asked me to play an alien that sits in the background of a shot and doesn’t talk, I would say yes [laughs]. Because working with him has been one of the great joys of my career so far.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, the final part of the Guardians trilogy, was released in cinemas just yesterday in the US.
