‘Justice League: Warworld’ Voice Cast Unveiled

Warner Bros. has released the cast list for the upcoming DC Animated film Justice League: Warworld and the character list is highly unexpected.

The main Justice League cast is typical and the core characters have the actors returning to their roles from previous DC Animated movies. Darren Criss returns as Superman, from Man of Tomorrow, Stana Katic returns as Wonder Woman, from Justice Society, and-of course- Jensen Ackles returns as Batman. Ackles initially took on the the role for The Long Halloween, Parts One and Two. Additionally, Ike Amadi will also reprise his Martian Manhunter role, also from Man of Tomorrow.

Interestingly, Lobo also appeared in Man of Tomorrow voiced by Ryan Hurst. However, Warworld will see the character voiced by John DiMaggio.

Other Characters in ‘Justice League: Warworld’

What makes this more more intriguing is the other characters that will be in the movie.

The rest of the cast is as listed:

  • Troy Baker as Jonah Hex
  • Matt Bomer as Old Man
  • Roger C. Cross as Machiste
  • Brett Dalton as Bat Lash
  • Trevor Devall as Drifter
  • John DiMaggio as Lobo
  • Robin Atkin Downes as Mongul
  • Frank Grillo as Agent Faraday
  • Rachel Kimsey as Mariah Romanova
  • David Lodge as Sheriff
  • Damian O’Hare as Deimos
  • Teddy Sears as Warlord

So, just to clarify, we’re getting a crossover between the Justice League, Jonah Hex, Bat Lash, Lobo, and Warlord. Upon first glance, the title Warworld conjures associations with epic cosmic battles and the supervillain Mongul. However, somehow Western, fantasy, and superhero characters are also included in the adventure.

The official solicitation seems to indicate a traditional Warwold storyline with gladiator-styled battles.

Until now, the Justice League has been a loose association of superpowered individuals, but when they are swept away to Warworld, a place of unending brutal gladiatorial combat, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the others must somehow unite to form an unbeatable resistance able to lead an entire planet to freedom.”

Even more fascinating, are the character descriptions for Batman and Superman. The article indicates that Ackles and Criss are playing dual roles of Batman/Officer Wayne and Superman/Agent Kent respectively. Are these new alternate identities for Batman and Superman? My personal theory is that there maybe some alternate reality shenanigans and Warworld is actually a planet made up of different lands from said various realities ruled by Mongul, similar to Marvel’s 2015 Secret Wars crossover. I’m also theorizing that Agent Kent and Officer Wayne are either distant ancestors of Clark and Bruce or alternate reality versions of them.

To be totally frank, the initial announcement of Warworld didn’t excite me because I thought of one of the most mediocre episodes from the Justice League cartoon. However, now that I’ve seen this random assortment of characters, my interest is piqued.

There is no firm release date for Justice League: Warworld. However it is expected sometime in summer 2023.
