“Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo” – Book Six

Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #6 is an action-packed, visual masterpiece of comic book storytelling. We get the culmination of everything revealed in issue 5. The revelation of what the grim Joker zombies really are is handled as a very satisfying mystery.
Thankfully, this doesn’t spell the end of the storyline, as I thought it would. Instead, we’re delighted with intense action, a face to the sinister threat, and another complication to the Joker and Batman’s tenuous relationship.
The insidious Amanda Simms is at her finest in this issue. We get the full rationale of a zombie bride and all the scary visuals that one can get from such a character. The image of a pale woman in all black, spouting the kinds of rhetoric about her hatred and uncertainty for what made her this way feels very much like a pulp 90’s comic. A very welcome call back.
I’m unsure what means I must go to, but I want a framed print of Silvestri’s artwork. I need to have a very large canvas of Batman fighting Joker zombies up on my wall. I can put it next to my “Visit Gotham” tourism poster.
The art in this series is stunning, the frames and figures are jagged and gritty but layered with so much detail that your eyes are pulled into every issue with intense gravity. I could look at the action set pieces in this title forever.
Conclusion
Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #6 gives readers the upper heights of Batman storytelling. As a tale that can fit almost anywhere in the wider canon, we can take the story at face value and read along for the wild ride it takes us on. We aren’t even done with the story yet, and that’s keeping us endlessly excited!
