Clancy Brown Cast as Boss Maroni in ‘Penguin’

The Penguin TV series has cast Clancy Brown as Salvatore “Sal” Maroni in a recurring role.

Clancy Brown is Sal Maroni

Brown is set to play yet another rival crime boss against Oswald Cobblepot. The show will feature Penguin as he fights to become the preeminent crime boss after Falcone’s death in The Batman.

Fans will recognize Maroni’s name. In the comics, he was Falcone’s main criminal rival. However, once Batman and Harvey Dent started cleaning away Gotham’s mobster regime, Maroni became an unwilling ally of Falcone. Later, he was the one responsible for throwing acid in Dent’s face, sending him down the path of becoming Two-Face.

Most recently, Maroni was portrayed by David Zayas in Gotham. However, most of the general public will probably remember Eric Roberts’ performance in The Dark Knight, where he played a similar role in Dent’s downfall.

Comic fans may also identify Clancy Brown too. Specifically, Brown’s distinctive voice. Along with playing parts in Dexter: New Blood, Spongebob Squarepants, and Highlander, Brown’s vocals will be recognized as the voice of Lex Luthor from the DCAU.

‘Boss’

Meanwhile, Penguin finally started production this past week. Onlookers took behind-the-scenes photos of Colin Farrell back in the Penguin makeup. He seems to have dressed up more since the last time viewers saw the character, as he’s decked out in a flashy purple sports coat

Additionally, eagle-eye fans spotted the shooting title for the television project. For now, Penguin is filming under the title: Boss. Quite appropriate, don’t you think?

There’s no exact release date yet, but Penguin will be featured on HBO Max some time in the next year.
