Director Matt Reeves has announced that Robert Pattinson will be returning as the Dark Knight for The Batman 2 in a CinemaCon presentation! The Batman has already grossed a phenomenal $760M around the globe with a viewership of 4.1M households on HBO Max in its first week, beating Suicide Squad, Dune, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Matrix Resurrections. So it’s no surprise to hear news of a second film so quickly.
HBO Max also has a spinoff series planned, centering around Penguin, played by Colin Farrell. With these new projects about to start, Reeves took the to the stage at CinemaCon to say:
Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.
Set in the second year of Bruce Wayne’s crime-fighting career, while he’s still building a myth around himself, The Batman follows the dark knight as he hunts down Paul Dano’s Edward Nashton (The Riddler), a serial killer targeting Gotham’s richest. Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin) and John Turturro’s crime lord Carmine Falcone also make an appearance to cause chaos for our rising vigilante.
