With the newest trailer for The Batman out, we’re looking back on some recent interviews with Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Weight. Now that we have a trailer with Pattinson saying more than just “I am vengeance” and providing a voice-over, we can finally understand more of Reeves’ take on Batman and what the actors have been hinting at in interviews.
Andy Serkis, who’s playing the beloved Wayne butler, Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman, expressed his excitement about working with director Matt Reeves during an interview with THR, saying:
I’ll tell you that it was fantastic being reunited with Matt Reeves, [producer] Dylan Clark and [VFX supervisor] Dan Lemmon from the Apes films. We had such a great time making it, and when it eventually comes to the screen, Matt Reeves will have made another masterpiece film because he’s so super-invested in it. But yeah, I’ve been forbidden, expressly forbidden, to talk about Alfred.
In an interview with ET, Jeffrey Wright, who’ll be playing The Batman’s Commissioner Gordon, said that he thinks Robert Pattinson’s Batman is “pretty b@d@$$” and talked about their time on set together:
Robert is gonna do his thing, and we were working within a Matt Reeves vision, so you know, Robert is doing what Robert does and it’s gonna be pretty b@d@$$ I think. […] I loved working with him, I love his take and his energy and the way that he kind of brought different levels to different parts of the story. And we work off of one another.
With already so much scepticism around Robert Pattinson stepping in to play the very massive role that is Batman, director Matt Reeves has a lot of negativity to fight against with in one movie. From the recent trailer that was released as part of DC FanDome, we can say that The Batman looks to be very promising.
With a darker tone, but not the same darkness as Snyder’s DCEU, Pattinson pulls off Batman iconic voice and general moodiness very successfully. There’s also a clear difference between Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight, with is crucial. Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman looks absolutely amazing, and it seems that her outfit is very much influenced by the Batman games, so we won’t have another Catwoman (2004) incident on our hands. Colin Farrell has said before that he doesn’t have much screen time in the movie, but either way, his character design is incredible, and he’s already commended the make-up artists in a previous interview.
Everyone at Dark Knight News is really looking forward to this new version of the Caped Crusader, so can’t wait until The Batman is released in cinemas on March 4th, 2022.
