Possible Lead Actresses for ‘Batgirl’ Movie Revealed

News sources have revealed the shortlist of actresses considered to play Barbara Gordon in the Batgirl movie.

It includes Isabella Merced, Zoey Deutch and Leslie Grace, for the potential lead role. Additionally, the report lists Haley Lu Richardson’s name. However, though her name is no longer a part of the potential list, so it’s unclear why the actress is no longer in the running.

Who Are the Possible Batgirl Actresses?

The potential Batgirl actresses are all young stars that have a few major film and television credits to their name. They also come from a wide variety of backgrounds and ethnicities.

Isabela Merced starred in Transformers: The Last Knight and Instant Family. Perhaps most notably she played Dora in the live-action Dora and the Lost City of Gold film.

Zoey Deutch a series regular role in the Netflix series The Politician, as well as Justin Bieber’s Anyone music video. She’s also the daughter of famous Back to the Future actress Lea Thompson.

Leslie Grace is a singer and songwriter who frequently collaborates with fellow LatinX musical artist, Becky G. Grace’s acting career blew up as one of the main cast in the musical film In the Heights.

‘Batgirl’s Development History

Hopefully fans can reaffirm their hope that the film will finally get made after seeing the cast list. The movie has been in developmental hell for a long period of time. Initially, Avengers and Justice League director Joss Whedon was brought on to write and direct the film. However, this eventually fell through and the film laid dormant for a while. Then Warner Bros announced Birds of Prey writer and producer Christina Hodson will created the screenplay for the movie.

More recently, the studio announced Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to helm Batgirl. Subsequently, they announced the the project will be produced as an HBO Max original, instead of receiving a theatrical release.
