James Gunn On SnyderVerse Movement

James Gunn shares his thoughts about fans wanting to restore the SnyderVerse.

The Suicide Director is hard at work on its HBO Max spinoff series, Peacemaker. He recently posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram which, as usual, generated a lot of buzz. One particular user, rahulsssj, had some harsh words to say.

A show no one asked for. Fans wanted a Deathstroke show, a Batfleck movie.. MoS2. Not this.

Gunn replied, in what turned into a small debate between the two:

No one asked for The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, or Seinfeld either. That’s not how television or ideas or creativity works. Open up your mind to the possibilities of what you don’t know and your life will be more full.

The commenter wrote back establishing that he’s not against Gunn’s work. But that Warner Bros. should make good on their promise before green-lighting Gunn’s projects. The problem is, you can’t have it both ways:

Warners wanted to do what I wanted to do and I wanted to do this, that simple. You can’t have it both ways – you either want creators to have power, or you want creators to do only what you want them to do.

Restoring the SnyderVerse

When asked whether Zack Snyder’s millions of fans are also hypocritical, James Gunn responded and emphasizing that the fans are “fighting for a director’s choices…”:

What? Of course not. The people trying to restore the Snyderverse are fighting for a director’s choices – they aren’t on here simultaneously complaining about a director’s choices.

While it’s been obvious that Warner Bros. has held the reins on other directors, James Gunn has had a very different experience. He’s said countless times before that he not only got to make the version of The Suicide Squad he wanted to make, he had his pick of the litter to both pick his DC film project and his HBO Max series.

What do you think? Was the commenter correct to bring the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse fight to James Gunn’s post about his DC show that he picked to work on? Or was there a better way to open this dialogue with the director? Let us know in the comments!
