Preview the Retro Batman 2022 Calendar

Holy Bronze Age, Batman! Calendar maker, Trends International, have released images of their 2022 calendar, featuring old-school 70’s-style Batman and Robin.

Forget the more modern designs, we’re going back to the 70’s, when Batman wore a blue and grey outfit, and Robin still had pixie boots. For extreme Bat-fans, they will recognize many of the character images are from legendary artist Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. Other images appear to be illustrated by comics superstars Jerry Ordway and long-time Batman artist Dick Giordano.

Despite taking character designs and images from the Bronze Age, this calendar seems to have also grabbed old Batman design elements from various other eras. For example, the calendar features the Detective Comics #27 red stripe at the top. Furthermore the red city-scape and yellow backdrop evokes the classic Batman #1 cover from the 1940’s.

Probably the most clever piece of design is “Mo. 1” and “Mo. 2” notations that appear in the upper left-hand corner of the various months. The circle and abbreviation also borrows from the Golden Age-style of comic book numbering.

Why did Trends international decide on a Bronze Age-style for their 2022 calendar? We’re not exactly sure, but it’s possible it has something to do with 1977 and 2022 having the same calendar. What a fun call-back, huh?

Please note that the back cover states that the images are “concept only,” so there could be changes before it’s officially published. Regardless, Trends International will release it on June 21 for $14.99.
