Justice League‘s main villain in 2017 was Steppenwolf, the general of Darkseid’s Apokoliptian army. He’s still a major villain in Snyder’s version of the flick, but he won’t be the only one. Other featured baddies include Darkseid, DeSaad, and Granny Goodness. While none of these characters were in the original theatrical cut of Justice League, they will be present in the new version.
The concept artist from 2017’s Justice League, Jerad S. Marantz just revealed a fun new detail about one of its villains. With Snyder’s upcoming film fast approaching, there has been immense speculation surrounding the movie, particularly the lead characters. Marantz also posted one of his original designs on Instagram, pointing out that the new version of Steppenwolf far more greatly resembles the original.
Additionally, Steppenwolf’s design between the two films has noticeably changed. A newly revealed 3-D turntable shows the villain without his armor. Steppenwolf will feature much sharper angles and larger muscles this time around.
This is the actual model that I turned over to production back in the days of #justiceleague,” Marantz wrote. “I really love these horns and they tie more into the new 52 version of the character.
Marantz also commented that he was attached to the hammerhead horns of Steppenwolf in his original design. However, a videogame came out around 2017 that also featured a character with a similar look. Marantz needed to change the design at the time. Now though, the designer seems very excited that his work will be more prominently fused into the film.
We can’t wait to see how the design changes in this villain could impact the story, and shake up our perceptions of this integral character.
