As all DCEU movie fans know, Zack Snyder kicked the whole thing off when he gave us the Man Of Steel movie. Furthermore, while many fans were disappointed by the 2017 theatrical cut of Justice League, many more celebrated the fact that, in 2021, we will all get get to finally see the Snyder Cut of said movie. However, there are rumours circulating – could the Snyder Cut of Justice League be Zack’s final DCEU project?
It’s safe to say that Warner Bros. will have thrown a large sum of money at Snyder to complete his vision of the film; the rumours suggest that $70million is that number. At the time of release of Batman v Superman, which had its fair share of critics too, Warner Bros. had a rethink on the Justice League movie, and plans were altered.
It’s common knowledge that Snyder left the Justice League project during post production, due to a very unfortunate personal tragedy. This is when Warner Bros. brought in Joss Whedon, and we got the movie we got. I have my own thoughts on that movie, and I’m sure they are the same as many others.
Fast Forward…
Now Snyder is back, currently working away to enable him to bring us his version of Justice League. With the use of an extensive array of post production gear, and some additional photography, he’s well on his way to giving us his original vision for the flick. As you all know, this is to be released in 2021 as 4 one-hour TV instalments, on HBO Max. However, it does seem that this may be the end of the road for Snyder in the DCEU.
According to an article in The New York Times, which profiles Walter Hamada, it’s been said that Snyder’s “not part of the DC Films blueprint”. Executives describe the Snyder Cut as a storytelling cul-de-sac – “a street that leads nowhere.” It’s assumed that this means the Snyder Cut will certainly be closer to Snyder’s original vision for Justice League, but won’t be kicking off storylines for Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, or Henry Cavill’s Superman in future films.
Zack Snyder’s the person who kicked of the DCEU, first bringing us Man of Steel, laying the groundwork, before moving on to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It’s very unfortunate that this movie was savaged by critics, and fans, meaning that Warner Bros. began to take more control of the movies being made.
Myself, I love Batman v Superman, while the Justice League movie we got in 2017 was (for me anyway) pretty poor. To be able to see Zack’s version sometime next year has me excited. However, based on what I’m reading, it could be a bittersweet moment if he is indeed, going to be leaving the DCEU.
What are your thoughts on this? How would you feel if, as expected, Snyder’s now finished with the DCEU? I’d really be interested in hearing from you.
