HBO Max Plans for More DC Projects

Article by Eric Lee

Warner Bros president Walter Hamada hopes to produce multiple DC projects a year as both theatrical releases and HBO Max originals.

In an interview with the New York Times, Hamada laid out his potential plans for DC superhero queue. The article states that there reportedly is an outline to release multiple DC films a year. Ideally, they will debt four DC films in the theaters and two additional films on the HBO Max streaming service.

The DC films that would be slated to debut on HBO Max would focus on “riskier characters” like Static Shock or a Batgirl movie.

Relatedly, Static Shock does have film plans with Michael B. Jordan producing it. Meanwhile, Batgirl was slated for a movie directed by Joss Whedon and written by Christina Hodson. However, things are up in the air for the status of the movie. The last time Hodson had any Batgirl updates was in 2018, prior to Birds of Prey going into production.

DC Spinoff Potential

In additional news, Hamada also discussed the possibility for DC television spinoffs on the streaming platform. He claimed that they are examining the spinoff potential for each film franchise.

“With every movie that we’re looking at now, we are thinking, ‘What’s the potential Max spinoff?”‘

So far there are two spinoff television shows in the works. One is a Peacemaker show from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The other is a Gotham Central-style police drama from The Batman.

Sounds like that Warner Bros and HBO Max have a lot of DC related projects in the pipeline. The idea of having six DC movies as well as television shows sounds amazing. Hopefully, the plan works out and fans can get all this awesome content.
