Review by Steve J. Ray

Hello, dear reader. First of all, please let me alleviate your confusion. No, you haven’t missed six issues since my last review. Justice League Dark #29 follows on the event story, Endless Winter, which started in JL: Endless Winter #1, and is currently plunging the DC Universe into sub-zero temperatures.

This month, alongside the brilliant list of usual suspects; Amancay Nahuelpan, June Chung, and Rob Leigh (all of whom deliver outstanding work… as always) we’re joined by Endless Winter scribes, Andy Lanning and Ron Marz. Usually I hate it when my favorite books are hijacked by crossovers, but these two fine gentlemen have made this issue feel like both a continuation of the Justice League Dark story, and a chapter from the crossover, quite seamlessly. Bravo!

Repeat Offenders

Amancay and June rock. The action and the vistas in this issue are beautiful. It’s brilliant that so much of the opening to the book is all white, blue, and snowbound, because when we change scene to the Oblivion Bar, and then to the Other Place, we get kissed on the eyeballs by simply stellar art and color. It’s amazingly well done.

Could someone please give Rob Leigh a raise? I’ve already written two reviews today, and those books were lettered by Rob, too. Impeccably. Thank you, Mr Leigh.

What we get in these pages is an action packed look into the past of the Viking Prince, Black Adam, and Queen Hippolyta, as well as a bang up-to date advancement of the ongoing Justice League Dark saga. I didn’t feel hoodwinked, or roped into an event I didn’t want or ask for, but instead, I just got another great issue of one of my favorite monthly comics.

Conclusion

It will be interesting to see how the next issue follows this, but I have no complaints about Justice League Dark #29. This can be read as just another chapter in our heroes’ saga, or as part of the crossover, without needing to go out and spend a ton of cash on the rest of the event.

I will say though, Endless Winter’s a pretty darned good story, and well worth picking up if you decide that you want to.
