‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Might Be Rated R

Article by Chris Foti

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is coming to HBO Max in 2021. According to the director, it’s possible the four hour cut will get an R-rating.

Here’s one piece of information nobody knows: the movie is insane and so epic and is probably rated R – that’s one thing I think will happen, that it will be an R-rated version, for sure. We haven’t hard from the MPAA, but that’s my gut.

R-rated superhero films are fairly uncommon, but given Snyder’s history this isn’t all that surprising. Before launching the DCEU with Man of Steel, Snyder’s previous comic inspired films 300 and Watchmen were rated R. Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition also got an R-rating.

Snyder gave some details on why he feels Justice League will be rated R:

There’s one scene where Batman drops an F-bomb. Cyborg is not too happy with what’s going on with his life before he meets the Justice League, and he tends to speak his mind, and Steppenwolf is pretty much just hacking people in half. So [the rating would be due to] violence and profanity, probably both.

Sorry fans of Bruce Wayne showering in BvS: Ultimate Edition, looks like nudity won’t be one of the reasons.

Coming To A Theater Near You?

Another interesting tidbit that Snyder mentioned is that he’s trying to get Zack Snyder’s Justice League into theaters. Thanks to COVID-19, movie theaters are one industry that really took a hit. To try and combat this, HBO Max announced all WB films will be released simultaneously on the streaming platform when they hit theaters, at no additional cost. While this is an extremely consumer friendly move, in light of the pandemic, not everyone agrees with it, including Christopher Nolan.

So it’s interesting that while movies are trending towards streaming services, that Snyder would be pushing for a theatrical release, as well.

I’m a huge fan and a big supporter for the cinematic experience, and we’re already talking about Justice League playing theatrically at the same time it’s coming to HBO Max. So weirdly, it’s the reverse [of the trend].

Snyder recently alluded that Justice League will be coming in March. Whether that release date remains and also includes a theatrical release is yet to be confirmed.
