After attempting to get into the superhero TV game with Supergirl, which has since moved to the CW, CBS is making another attempt by developing a series based on the DC property Secret Six.
According to Variety:
The project, which has received a pilot production commitment at the network, follows six morally ambiguous strangers, each with their own specialties and secret pasts. They are brought together by an enigmatic figure who blackmails them into working as a team to expose the corruption of the corporate and political elite.
Various DC Comics characters have been members of the Secret Six over the years, including Bane, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, Mad Hatter, and the Penguin. There is no word yet, however, on which characters would appear in the series.
Rick Muirragui (Suits, Men of a Certain Age, Charmed) will write and executive produce the series along with Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, CBS’ Rush Hour) and Jeff Ingold.
As stated in the Variety report, it is unknown which DC characters will be a part of the Secret Six, nor do we know what connection, if any, it will share with the Arrowverse. Supergirl started on CBS, but it had a crossover with CW’s The Flash and now takes part in crossovers on a regular basis.
While DC has struggled overall in the film department the past few years, they have been pretty successful in the realm of television. Across various channels they have Gotham set to air its final season on FOX, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning have returned to CW, a second season of Krypton is coming to SyFy and their new Titans show has premiered on the DC Universe streaming site.
