Todd Phillips Posts First Official Photo of Zazie Beetz in ‘Joker’, Expresses Frustration Over Paparazzi

Zazie Beetz took the world by storm in her role as the first live-action Domino in Deadpool 2 earlier this year. In a movie full of highlights, she herself was one of the brightest. Therefore, it was a bit of good news to hear that the actress was jumping ship and getting on board with DC.

A few months ago, it was announced that Beetz was in talks to play a mysterious character in Todd Phillips’ Joker film. It has since been revealed that she will be playing a single mother by the name of Sophie Dumond, a possible love interest for Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck.

If somehow you hadn’t been paying attention, Joker has started principal photography in New York earlier last week. Therefore, the paparazzi have been going insane with photos and videos on set. It’s likely some of the most frenzied media surrounding a movie in quite some time. Earlier yesterday, Beetz appeared on and, of course, the paps delivered. Do a quick Google search and you’ll find the photos of her on-set.

Not too long after the fact, director Todd Phillips eventually jumped on Instagram and posted his own professional shot of Beetz as Sophie.

Check it out below:

So excited to be working with @zaziebeetz. Joker. ?@nikotavernise

It’s not the most glamorous of shots, but likely just a establishing photo of the character, not to give too much away. There’s nothing particularly exciting about the photo and it’s not too dissimilar to the first photo of Fleck from last week, just a simple shot of the actors in character. At least Notts definitely not as exciting as Phillips revealing Phoenix in clown make up.

Paparazzi are bumming him out

Last week, I speculated that Phillips began posting these professional shots to combat the paparazzi (not too difficult to guess, as each post usually came shortly after the pap photos came out) and it seems like I was right on the money. A fan commented on the above post, expressing that they’ve already seen too much of the film. To which, Phillips expressed his frustration, by replying back to the comment on Instagram.

Take a look at his response:

It’s fairly frustrating, but there’s not too much he can do when he’s filming on location, in a very populated city.

What do you think? Excited about seeing Zazie Beetz in a DC movie? Let me know.

You’ll get to see just how large a role Beetz will play in Joker on October 4, 2019.
