Selina Kyle actress Carmen Bicondova confirmed that Gotham season 5 will be only ten episodes long.
Bicondova announced that the final season will be shortened and air in January 2019 on her Instagram Live feed. Bicondova on season 5:
“Gotham Season 5 is happening. We were picked up for 10 episodes, and I believe it will be airing in the U.S. January 2019.”
Implications of ‘Gotham’
Gotham having a shortened season is not necessarily a bad thing. Ten episodes is more than enough to wrap up all the plot threads and deliver a satisfying conclusion. Furthermore, bigger does not necessarily mean better. Many shows suffer from having long, drawn-out seasons that messes with the pacing of the overall story arc. Regardless, shows’ fans have already started a petition to extend the series past season 5.
The oddest part of making the season shorter is that it falls short of the 100-episode mark needed for syndication. Counting the last season, Gotham will have 98 episodes. Does FOX intend on producing longer episodes and counting it as two episodes to hit that 100-episode milestone?
