FOX chairman Gary Newman revealed that a season renewal for Gotham will depend on many factors.
When speaking at the Innovative TV Conference (INTV) in Israel, Newman let on how likely is Gotham going to be renewed for a fifth season. Newman also discussed the Batman-prequel series moving to Thursday nights.
“We asked a lot of it this year moving to Thursday nights and I thought it did a pretty good job of opening up that night for us. I feel like Gotham should have a place in our schedule…[Gotham’s renewal will] purely be a matter of scheduling. Thursday is not available in the fall, so where do we use it? Hopefully there’s more years of Gotham.”
What Does This Mean?
It sounds like that Newman is hopeful that Gotham will remain on the air. However, judging by his quote, Newman implies that Gotham is well-liked at FOX, but also faced with the reality of low ratings. Since moving to Thursday nights, the series took a sizable dip in viewership.
It seems like external circumstances that cannot be controlled will ultimately decide Gotham‘s fate. If FOX does have room in their line-up, then perhaps they will renew. But this is contingent on what new shows will be brought on and where they will be placed.
Gotham airs Thursday nights at 8/7 Central on FOX.
