While Telltale is currently 3 episodes into their second season of Batman, titled The Enemy Within, fans who own a PlayStation 4 who haven’t given the series a chance yet might want to pay attention.
If you have a PlayStation Plus account, the first season (all five episodes) of Telltale’s Batman will be available for free, starting in January 2018. For $59.99 a year, $24.99 for three months, or $9.99 for one month, PlayStation Plus subscribers are given new games every month they can download for free and have unlimited access to, along with various discounts on games, as long as their subscription is active. At any point in the month, you can log on to the PlayStation Store and download the selected free games of the month.
Telltale exploded in popularity in 2012 when they released their first season of The Walking Dead (which in itself clung onto the popularity of the show of the same name). Releasing their stories episodically, the Telltale games give players control on how the story progresses. Throughout the story, when prompted, you are given dialogue or action choices, which effect your relationships with other characters, which then effects how the story progresses. Do you try to make allies with the up and coming District Attorney Harvey Dent? How cordial are you to mobster Carmine Falcone, who just crashed your party? What is your relationship with Alfred like? The Telltale games let you mold that story for yourself.
After Telltale’s first The Walking Dead season, they’ve gone on to tackle other franchises such as The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands, Guardians of the Galaxy, and of course Batman.
In Telltale’s Batman, players take control of the Dark Knight in his early days as Gotham’s protector. Still not trusted by the law, and still finding his way, players get to choose what kind of Batman they want to be and how they want the city to see him. You are able to forge your own alliances and take control, or neglect, your relationships both as Batman and Bruce Wayne.
What better way to kick off the new year than to put on the cape and cowl as Batman and make your own journey from vigilante to Dark Knight? What kind of Batman would you be? Let us know!
