Brian Michael Bendis Signs An Exclusive DC Contract

After 18 years of writing for Marvel, Brian Michael Bendis has signed an exclusive deal with DC Comics.

The announcement was made via twitter that he will be heading over to DC on what they describe as a ‘multiyear, multi-faceted deal’.

 

Bendis has confirmed the deal and let fans know that he is excited for the change. He has also let them know that the current Marvel titles he is writing will be well taken care off.

Why DC fans should be excited for Brian Michael Bendis

Bendis is one of the most prolific writers in modern comic book history. Launching the Ultimate Universe for Marvel with Ultimate Spider-Man he wrote this title for a total of 133 issues. This includes 111 consecutive issues with artist Mark Bagley making them one of the longest running partnerships in comics history.

He wrote twelve issues of Ultimate X-Men and relaunched The Avengers in 2004 with New Avengers. He also created Alias which became the basis for Jessica Jones season one on Netflix. Bendis is responsible for company wide event story-lines such as Secret WarHouse of MSecret Invasion, Siege and Age of Ultron.

He has won a total of five Eisner Awards as well as being nominated for an additional four. He won the Comics Buyer’s Guide Best Writer of the Year award three years running (2002, 2003 and 2004) and the Wizard Magazine Best Writer of the Year four years in a row (2001, 2001, 2002, 2003) 

In all this time Brian Michael Bendis has only ever written one story for DC Comics. A Batman story called ‘Citizen Wayne’, published The Batman Chronicles #21. To date is his only work for DC.

Details are scarce and no announcements have been made regarding when Bendis will begin with DC. However he did send out an interesting tweet that may have been a hint about what is to come.
