Karen Gillian (Doctor Who) dropped a mini-bomb at a recent comic convention by revealing her desire to play the Joker.
Gillian appeared in Doctor Who and played the villainous Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. At a panel at Florida’s Supercon, Gillian was asked what roles she would be interested in pursuing outside of the MCU. Gillian shocked the audience with her assertion to play the Joker.
“Oh, can I say something DC? Okay, I’m going to say something DC, and I’m going to play the Joker. Maybe a female Joker.”
It is clear that Gillian is going on a limb and choosing the craziest role to play. She even implied that her hypothetical version of the Joker does not even necessarily need to be a female.
Flashpoint Joker
However, the crowd was quick to point out that there is a female Joker in the Flashpoint comic. Serendipitously, not only is that version of the Joker female, but Warner Bros. recently announced a Flashpoint movie. Gillian’s enthusiasm grew as she discovered the existence of a female Joker.
“This is my calling! Somebody make a call for me and let them know when I’m available!”
Who knows how serious Gillian is for the role of the Joker. In the meantime, she will play Nebula again when Avengers: Infinity War opens in 2018.
