‘Suicide Squad’ Continues To Break Records

As if breaking the all time Opening Thursday night and Opening Weekend August domestic records were not enough, Suicide Squad has continued to defy critics as it just broke the record for biggest domestic Tuesday box office ever in August. After an incredible opening weekend of $133.6 million, the film pushed forward with an impressive $13.4 million domestic Monday gross, and then enjoyed a 9% increase to $14.27 million domestically on Tuesday! This currently puts the film at a whopping  $161+ million domestically, just a mere $13.9 million short of it’s production budget.

As reported yesterday, distribution executive vice president, Jeff Goldstein, spoke on how Warner Bros. are more than pleased with the success of Suicide Squad and further commented that “There’s a major disconnect with between what the critics are saying and what audiences are seeing.” This certainly seems to be the case as fans have not let the negative reviews stop them from going out to see this movie, and apparently have been returning for repeat viewings. The impressive Tuesday box office figures for Suicide Squad have even topped the numbers of some other comic giants of the year, to include Captain America: Civil War ($13.76 million) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($12.7 million).

With the film’s success, there has been talk of a possible Harley Quinn and Joker spinoff, but nothing has been officially announced. Suicide Squad, at least, continues to impress with its box office figures.
