There is word that Warner Bros. is in the process of developing a movie starring Harley Quinn and a host of other female superhero characters.
Apparently, Margot Robbie helped advocate for the project after she reportedly fell in love with DC’s wide roster of female characters during her research for the Harley Quinn role. Since then, Robbie has brought on a writer for a script, which was then picked up by Warner Bros.
Perhaps the most interesting point to note is that this is not considered a Harley Quinn solo spin-off movie, but more of a film with a number of unnamed female superheroine leads and features Harley as the antagonist.
The easiest assumption to make is that this film will be based on DC’s popular, long-running comic series Birds of Prey, which along with Batgirl, is among the names The Hollywood Reporter has heard thrown around. Birds of Prey initially began as a series starring Barbara Gordon as the wheelchair-bound, computer genius Oracle and martial arts expert Black Canary. Since the series’ start in 1996, it has since then expanded its lineup to include other heroines, like Huntress, Dove, Lady Blackhawk, Vixen, Catwoman, Power Girl, Poison Ivy, Hawkgirl, and most interestingly, Katana, who is making her film debut alongside Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad.
Not much is known about the film yet, but you can bet there will be more news to come as we creep closer to the August 5 opening of Suicide Squad.
