Following up last week’s news on the functionality of Dual Play in Arkham Knight, the second episode of Arkham Insider has dropped even more details on the combat system. Tim Hanagan, lead AI programmer on the game, spoke about what to expect from Dual Play as he guided viewers through the actual gameplay.
The specific scene they play through showcases a team-up between Batman and Nightwing. Most of what they talk about is focused on the uses of Dual Play, with one of the more interesting things being the takedown, in which both characters being controlled can come together in a single, crushing team-up moment. There’s also more free-form combat than other Arkham games, with the ability to simply find weapons on the ground, using the tools dropped by criminals.
Talking about the development of the combat system over the course of the series, it’s evident Hanagan could not be prouder of where they’ve ended up. He says, “It was the success of the previous games that allowed us to keep pushing the envelope.”
By all accounts, the new feature will add a new, more extreme level of action than has previously been seen in the Arkham franchise. Stay tuned for more news as it develops.
Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on June 23rd and will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac and PC.
