Batkid Begins at Slamdance

The popular Slamdance film festival in Park City, Utah will be getting a pint sized dose of Batman this year. Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World is a documentary directed by the Emmy Award winning Dana Nachman that follows the story of 5 year-old Miles Scott’s wish to become “a real Batman.” A wish to help take the child’s mind off of his very hard daily battle with leukaemia.

For any of you who may not be familiar with the story, or perhaps have just forgotten, Miles’ wish from the Make a Wish Foundation drew national headlines in November of last year when the entire city of San Francisco was changed into “Gotham City” for a day so that a batsuit-ed, batmobile-driving Miles could save the it. The event drew over 14,000 people who all showed up to cheer on Miles AKA “Batkid” as he ran through San Fransisco’s streets accompanied by an adult Batman, saving civilians, fighting villains and earning a key to the city. There were also videos sent from around the world to Batkid from thousands of people including the cast of Arrow and the US President.

The film crowd sourced film chronicles this story with interviews with Miles, his family, celebrities and the organizers of the event. You can check it out if you’re in Park City January 23rd-26 as part of Slamdance, or check the film’s website for updates on when and if it will play in a theatre near you.
