Batman Day Special Edition Detective Comics #27 Cover and Timeline Poster Revealed

A couple months ago, DC officially declared July 23rd Batman Day in celebration of the Caped Crusader’s 75th birthday. A press release surfaced online that detailed the many stops that DC was pulling out for their iconic character. On that day, if one should head out to a local comic book store (or library), you’ll find lots of Bat-related freebies such as bookmarks celebrating a few landmark Batman graphic novels, four Batman masks each representing a significant era in Batman history, and a special anniversary cape bearing DC’s 75th anniversary Bat insignia.

Want more? DC also mentioned a free special edition copy of Detective Comics #27 that will feature a reimagining of Batman’s first appearance in the 1939 #27 by novelist Brad Meltzer. Wanna see the cover? ‘Course you do.

Recognize the cover? It’s the cover art for Batman #0 by Greg Capullo, with a slight touch-up and instead Bats is bursting out of the cover of the 1939 Detective #27. Notice anything else? (Jeez, I’m asking lots of questions today) Yep, that is Bill Finger’s name listed below Bob Kane. Good job, DC. It’s great to see the guy get some credit when he deserves it so much.

Also, DC released this cool timeline poster featuring major events in Batman’s history from Mr. Freeze’s first appearance in comics to the release of Arkham Origins. The poster will be put on display in select locations. Unfortunately, the poster will not be available for purchase, which doesn’t quite make much sense if DC is trying to cash in. Here’s the poster, so even if you can’t own it, you can look at it here:

Are you ready to celebrate Batman Day? I know I am.
