We’ve known for a while now that a new Batman series will be debuting this year, Batman:Eternal (you can read our first report on it here), and in the driver’s seat of this new series is none other than Scott Snyder. This new project will not only feature stories written by him, but also other known authors such as James Tynion IV, Ray Fawkes, Tim Seeley and current Detective scribe John Layman. Snyder spoke to Newsarama about the highly anticipated series, letting it be known this won’t be what you expect.
“We don’t want it to be something you read and it just feels like a studio factory, churning out a plot.”
Snyder even promises major changes to the Batman world, teasing it to fans by releasing the image below a few months ago.
Do you see major changes? Because Snyder does.
It really is a huge, bombastic story that really does change a ton of things. It will really bend the mythology of Batman. I mean, from his core characters changing, his core allies, to the shape of the city — there are really, really big things coming for the series, that I’m going to play into in Batman and sort of dovetail off of when I come back [to present day in the Batman title, after “Zero: Year.”]
One of these possible changes may be toward Nightwing, with fans speculating for a while now that the events of Forever Evil will change the person behind the mask (cough Harper Row cough). When asked about this, Snyder answered the question, without answering the question.
I can’t say. I would love to tell you, but I think I’d rather just let you guys be surprised and have fun discovering it as it goes. I wouldn’t want to ruin anything.
I’m looking forward to this new series. Like many fans of The Dark Knight, I always want more and when Snyder is the one driving the batmobile, sign me up.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to this weekly series? What changes do you see in the teaser image? And what about all of this Nightwing nonsense?
