By now, most of us have heard that the Justice League movie will film in 2013 and hit theaters sometime in 2015. Sometime in the summer of 2015, in fact. The same summer, it just so happens, that Avengers 2 will be released. The timing of this release is pitting the two films superhero films head-to-head in the summer box office. Which seems a bit intentional, but maybe not the best move on DC’s part.
Avengers 2 will benefit from the first round of solo films, the original Avengers movies, and the “Phase 2” of Marvel films releasing in 2013 and 2014 (including Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy). Warner Bros has not announced any plans to tie Justice League into Superman: Man of Steel, Green Lantern, or any of the other DC movies. The Times has reported though that the studio is planning to go in reverse: using the Justice League film as a launchpad for solo films for some of the members of the League like Flash and Wonder Woman. However, for all appearances, it looks like DC is relying on the Justice League’s iconic namesake and the solo, independent films that are coming before to get fans excited.
If the movie is done well, I’m sure it’ll be a success regardless. However, in competing with Marvel’s Avengers 2, it’ll have to bring something big to the table. There have been no rumours yet as to who will direct or act on the Justice League movie, so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
