DC Studios revealed the first trailer for Clayface that showcases all of its body horror elements in full display.
The trailer is very similar to the footage shown at CinemaCon only last week. However, now that we have a public video, we can rewatch the footage and really break it down shot by shot.
We see Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen in a hospital bed with a horrifically bloodied and bandaged-up face. As the camera slowly pushes into Hagen’s damaged face, we see a montage of all sorts of crazy sequences. The trailer music is a remixed version of The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize??”
‘Clayface’ Trailer Shot-by-Shot
We see glimpses of pre-accident Matt Hagen with his beautiful Hollywood actor face. But then we see more creepy elements. One scene looks like Hagen is strapped to a hospital gurney while getting a scalpel cut into his face. Another scene looks like Hagen’s face with a skin graft that looks unsettlingly smooth.
Then we see Hagen get injected with some sort of formula. For the briefest second, we get a return of Hagen’s beautiful face, before it smash-cuts to his face starting to melt. There is a sequence of various body horror imagery. We glimpse at Hagen scream while his mouth is melding into itself; him taking off his sunglasses and missing his right eye; and even a silhouette shadow shot of maybe a full-on Clayface with a spiked ball for his hands. Finally, Hagen is in the bathtub where he rubs his face and it disappears.
Director James Watkins really leaned heavily into the horror elements. It is beyond disturbing to see parts of your body completely vanish or fall off. The movie definitely is shaping up to be a gruesome movie that will full explore that horror.
Clayface hits theaters October 23, 2026.
